October 2, 2007 - Tune into "WIIFM!" Increase your student's internal motivation by having them think about and then say out loud "What's In It For Me!" The thinking and reflection help to internalize the motivation. The saying it out loud helps to activate the auditory channel of their senses.
September 18, 2007 - Organize for learning by having material right at hand. Take an apron with pockets, tie it or sew it up so it will hang on the back of the chair your student uses. Now fill the pockets with crayons, a ruler, erasers, etc. that the student needs most every day.
September 4, 2007 - Prime the pump for reading by first reading the end of the chapter questions. This tells the brain what to look for as you read.
August 21, 2007 - Celebrate learning and tell the brain you are finished with one activity and ready for another by giving high fives, or, with one hand, reach way up, way back and pat yourself on the back. Simple. Physical. Doable!
